The top destinations to visit on this 7-day safari include Nyungwe Forest Park in southwestern Rwanda, Akagera National Park in Eastern Rwanda, and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in southwestern Uganda.  Chimpanzee trekking, canopy walk, game viewing, boat cruising, and mountain gorilla trekking are the major activities to do on this 7 Days adventure. The safari starts in Kigali Rwanda and can either end in Kigali Rwanda or Kampala Uganda.

Detailed Itinerary
ARRIVAL, PICK UP, AND TRANSFER TO THE HOTEL

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will find our representative waiting for you. Greet and be briefed about your 7-day tour and proceed to your Hotel/Lodge in Kigali city.

Lodge/Hotel: 
Meal plan: Bed & Breakfast

After breakfast at your lodge, you will drive off with your driver towards Nyungwe forest located on the southwestern side of Rwanda. Enjoy the beautiful ride through the countryside as you head towards Nyungwe on a 4-5 hour journey. Check in at the lodge on arrival, have lunch, and head to the forest for a canopy walk in the afternoon. Enjoy walking on a suspended walkway with great aerial views of the entire forest and also an opportunity to watch primates down going about their daily activities. The canopy walk in Rwanda is one of a kind in the entire region and can only be found in Nyungwe. Return to the lodge later for your dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast, you will set off to the park offices for a briefing with a team of other tourists. This exercise is meant to prepare you for the adventure that will be coming as you hit the jungle in search of the habituated chimps. You will trek into the forest for several hours until you meet the chimps and be allowed to spend a full hour in their presence. You will also have a chance to watch other primates especially monkeys and several bird species. Return soon or later after this thrilling experience with chumps and return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, go for an experimental canopy walk for great aerial views of the forest, Virunga Mountains, and local communities.  Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

After an early breakfast, you will drive off transferring to Akagera National Park located on the Eastern side of the Republic of Rwanda. Arrive in the afternoon, check in at the lodge, have lunch. Head out for an evening game drive to set your eyes on your favorite wildlife like the lions, giraffes, leopard, elephants, impala, warthogs, topis, duikers, baboons, vervet monkeys and several bird species among others. Drive back to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

After breakfast at the lodge, head out for a morning game drive to catch up with the big five and other wildlife. Look out for the elephants, hunting lions, hyenas, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes and several antelopes during this drive. Retire at the lodge for lunch and later launch a boat cruise at Lake Ihema to spot wildlife including hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and several bird species. Return to the lodge later, have dinner and spend a night.

Have breakfast early in the morning and get on to the road heading to Bwindi impenetrable forest National Park in Uganda. The exciting journey will take you through the rolling hills of Rwanda enjoying scenic views and cross to Uganda through Gatuna border. Continue to the lodge on arrival at Bwindi, check-in and relax as you prepare for Gorilla trekking the following morning.  Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Breakfast is served very early and then drive to the park offices for briefing with other guests as a group. You will then be divided in groups and allocated a habituated gorilla family to track and soon be led into the thick forest for the experience. After several hours of trekking in the high mountains, you will meet the habituated gorillas and be allowed to spend one full hour with them taking pictures and learning about their behavior. Return to the starting point afterward and be given your tracking certificate before driving off to your lodge for a meal and relaxation. Depending on the time available, you will engage in a community visit to acquaint yourself with the life of the locals. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Have breakfast and drive off to Kampala with stopovers for lunch and souvenirs. Proceed to the airport for your departure.

What to To Think About On This Tour

Gorilla & Chimpanzee tracking is subject to the availability of permits, which are limited to 8 per gorilla group per day and 6 per chimpanzee track per ½ day.

Any Gorilla and Chimpanzee permits required need to be paid for upfront when booking. As soon as funds clear in our account, we will go ahead and purchase.  

Gorilla and Chimpanzee permits are always 100% non-transferable and non-refundable

The RATES are subject to change and are based on Availability with effect from July upon release of the new tariffs from Uganda Wildlife Authority and Rwanda Development Board.

On flights and land-based tours within East Africa, each passenger is limited to a maximum baggage weight of 33 pounds (15 kilograms). This includes the weight of purses and camera equipment in addition to regular luggage. Luggage restrictions are adhered to very strictly and passengers should pack their bags accordingly. Soft-sided luggage or duffels are preferable to hard luggage for storage on safari vehicles and also on aircraft used throughout East Africa. Dimensions should not exceed 23 inches (58 centimetres) long x 13 inches (33 centimetres) high x 10 inches (25 centimetres) wide.
